Looking for an orphanage near you?
If you searched for an orphanage near me to visit or donate to, here is an honest answer. OrphanCare Foundation is not an orphanage. It is a Malaysian non-profit, based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, with branches in Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani, that has worked since 2008 so that children in orphanages and other institutions can grow up in the care of a loving family. Here is what that means, and how you can help children in Malaysia.

Where OrphanCare works
Petaling Jaya, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani
OrphanCare's office is at 54, Jalan 5/60, Bukit Gasing, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, close to Kuala Lumpur. It also has branches in Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani.
OrphanCare is not an orphanage or a children's home. Its social workers visit orphanages and other institutions to raise awareness of family-based care, and work with children whom institutions refer to OrphanCare so that each child can return to a family.
Why family-based care
An orphanage gives shelter. A family gives belonging.
OrphanCare's tagline is Every Child Needs a Family. It believes every child has the right to love, security, shelter, health and education, and that growing up in an institution harms children: institutions do not help a child form a close bond with one caring adult.
Many children in orphanages are not orphans. OrphanCare's figures, as of August 2026, count more than 64,000 children living in institutions in Malaysia; 87% of them still have at least one living parent, and 35% have both parents alive. Poverty is commonly the root cause of a child being placed in an institution.
That is why OrphanCare's approach, called deinstitutionalisation, is about families rather than buildings. In OrphanCare's words: "DI is not about closing orphanages and child care institutions. It is about reintegrating children with their right to grow up with the love and care of a family."
How OrphanCare works with orphanages
From an institution back to a family, step by step
Reintegration is a careful process of reuniting a child from an institution with his or her family. If a child cannot return to parents or extended family, OrphanCare helps the child be adopted. The child's wellbeing and safety always come first.
- 1
An orphanage refers a child
The institution refers a child to an OrphanCare social worker, who visits and builds a relationship with the child to see whether he or she is ready.
- 2
The family is involved
The social worker meets the child's family and, once the child agrees, develops a care plan with them.
- 3
Practical needs are met
The social worker identifies what the family needs, such as financial help, groceries, school uniforms, job placement, housing or educational support, and OrphanCare looks for help from many sources so the family can stay together.
- 4
The child goes home, with follow-up
The child returns to the family, and an OrphanCare social worker follows up with regular care plans until the family is doing well.
Support that continues
Help children in Malaysia grow up in families, not institutions.
Your monthly gift supports OrphanCare's shared programmes for children and families. It is not a donation to one particular orphanage or to one named child. It opens on OrphanCare's own secure checkout with monthly giving already selected.

Ways to help children near you
- Give monthly: OrphanCare relies entirely on corporate and private donors, and a regular donation keeps its child protection, family support, adoption and reintegration work going all year.
- Give once: make a single donation on OrphanCare's donation page.
- Volunteer: help with social media, writing or awareness-building. Volunteers rarely work directly with children, because OrphanCare is not a children's home.
- Donate goods: OrphanCare welcomes donations in kind. Email admin@orphancare.com.my first, because it cannot receive items at its office; it shows what it needs on its Facebook page.
- Tell OrphanCare about a child: if you know a child in an institution who needs help, or a family that wants to bring its child home, let OrphanCare know.
