Volunteer opportunities in Malaysia

Volunteer in Malaysia with OrphanCare.

Looking for volunteer work in Malaysia? OrphanCare Foundation started as a group of volunteers, and the spirit of volunteering still underpins its work. Volunteers help with social media, writing and awareness-building, and companies and groups collaborate on events, fundraising and awareness, so that more children in Malaysia can grow up in the care of a loving family.

The volunteer form is OrphanCare's own, in English and Malay.

A real conversation

OrphanCare contacts volunteers who sign up for a virtual interview.

Honest about the role

Volunteer work supports OrphanCare's outreach, not care in a children's home.

Before you sign up

OrphanCare is not an orphanage, and that shapes the volunteer role.

OrphanCare is not an orphanage or a children's home. It works to get children out of care institutions and into loving families, through reintegration with their own families and through adoption. So if you volunteer with OrphanCare, it is very unlikely that you will be in contact with children.

What volunteers do instead is just as real: they help OrphanCare tell more people that every child needs a family, and they support the awareness work that changes how children are cared for in Malaysia.

OrphanCare says it values the time, energy and knowledge volunteers contribute. It is reviewing and reshaping its volunteer programme so that every volunteer's contribution has the most impact, and the sign-up form is the way to put your name forward.

Volunteer roles

Three ways volunteers help OrphanCare

OrphanCare's volunteer sign-up form asks you to choose the areas where you feel you can help. These are the areas it lists.

Social media marketing

Help OrphanCare reach more people online with its message that every child deserves the love and care of a family.

Writing content, blogs, stories and news

Help write and shape the articles, blog posts and news that explain OrphanCare's work to the public.

Health and social awareness building

Support the awareness talks, workshops and webinars that OrphanCare runs for students, parents and child care centres.

How to sign up

From the form to your first conversation

  1. 1

    Fill in the volunteer form

You give your name, age, email and phone number, tell OrphanCare what you know about its work and why you want to volunteer, and pick the areas you can help with. Questions appear in English and Malay.

  2. 2

    OrphanCare gets in touch

The team reads your answers and contacts you for a virtual interview, so you do not need to travel to take the first step.

Companies, CSR and groups

Corporate volunteering and collaboration in Malaysia

OrphanCare collaborates with government, companies and civil society to end the practice of children being raised in institutions. It invites interested, willing and able organisations to work with it, because the mission needs contributions from many sources.

If your company, school, university or community group wants to do something together, OrphanCare's collaboration form asks what you have in mind, whether it should happen at a particular time, and for a proposal if you have one. The team reviews each proposal and gets back to you.

  • Events: organise or host an event with OrphanCare.
  • Fundraising: run a fundraiser for OrphanCare's work with your team or community.
  • Raising awareness: host one of OrphanCare's talks or workshops.
  • Deinstitutionalisation awareness webinar: OrphanCare's team runs it for child care centres, for companies and funders of institutions, and for parents who want to know more about deinstitutionalisation.

Why it matters

Every child needs a family

OrphanCare's vision is a world where every child has a loving family. Its figures, as of August 2026, put the number of children living in institutions in Malaysia at more than 64,000, and 87% of them still have at least one living parent.

OrphanCare's social workers help children return safely to their own families, and help children who cannot go home find adoptive families. Volunteers, partners and donors keep that work going.

Give as well as volunteer

A monthly gift keeps family-based care going all year.

Your monthly gift supports OrphanCare's shared programmes: child protection, family support, adoption and reintegration. It opens on OrphanCare's own secure checkout with monthly giving already selected.

Other ways to help

Not able to volunteer right now?

  • Give monthly: a regular gift supports OrphanCare's child protection, family support, adoption and reintegration work all year.
  • Donate goods: OrphanCare welcomes donations in kind. Email admin@orphancare.com.my first. It cannot receive items at its office because of space and staffing limits, and it shows what it needs on its Facebook page.
  • Work with OrphanCare: it is often looking for talented people to join its team, including social workers.

Good to know

Questions about volunteering

Will I work with children as a volunteer?

Very unlikely. OrphanCare is not an orphanage or a children's home. Volunteers help with social media, writing and awareness-building rather than day-to-day care of children.

Can I volunteer at an orphanage through OrphanCare?

No. OrphanCare is not an orphanage: its work is helping children leave institutions for families, and its volunteer roles are in social media, writing and awareness-building.

What volunteer roles are available?

The sign-up form lists three areas: social media marketing; writing content, blogs, stories and news; and health and social awareness building. You can tell OrphanCare which ones suit you.

How do I sign up, and what happens next?

Fill in OrphanCare's volunteer form. The team then contacts you for a virtual interview.

Can my company or group volunteer together (CSR)?

Yes. Use the collaboration form to suggest an event, a fundraiser or an awareness activity, attach a proposal if you have one, and OrphanCare will get back to you.

Where is OrphanCare based?

OrphanCare's office is at 54, Jalan 5/60, Bukit Gasing, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It also has branches in Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani.

Can I donate goods instead?

Yes. Email admin@orphancare.com.my first, because OrphanCare cannot receive items at its office. Perishable items must be at least six months from expiry, and everything must be clean, dry, complete and in good working order. Deliver to the address OrphanCare gives you.

Can I give money instead of time?

Yes. The monthly giving button on this page opens OrphanCare's own secure checkout with monthly giving selected. You can change or cancel through the link in your email receipt.
